Firstly must make my apologies for not writing here all week!! It's been quite busy with studying and trying to get in some sight-seeing etc! The work is quite hard, we have 20 new words to learn each day and 1 or 2 short essays. But it's really good to learn so intensively.
Hmm what did I do this week then? Oh yes, Me, Erica and Michele went to a huge market on Sunday, did some haggling in chinese (very funny!) and got me some bargains!! We spent all day there, so we got some lunch from a street vendor in the market - they told us it was rice with veg, tofu and beef, but it turned out to be beef liver.....yucky....
Went out for lunch the other with some people from my friend Erica's class. I sat down and said hello, then realised that none of them spoke English! We tried really hard to speak in Chinese, but it was the most stilted conversation ever! It's good to practice though.
Went to the Zoo with Erica on Wednesday to see the giant pandas: really cute :P
Today we went to wangfujing to this food market thing to have lunch...we tried loads of different things - but not the scorpians on sticks.....maybe next time, or not! Was really nice though.
Some of us are going to a un-restored part of the great wall on sunday. Erica's host family said that they would take us there, it's really kind of them. Will put some pics up when I get back.
Question: is Erica the Erica or a new Erica?
ReplyDeletePity about the scorpions on sticks.. they sound fun!
20 new words a day! That's tough in any language. Wondered why you'd gone silent. Have you tracked down a 'cello yet? Look forward to more pics in due course.
ReplyDeleteYour parents are confused about the two Ericas - well not which one is which - just which one either of us happens to be talking about. So you can be quite along way into a conversation before you realise it's the wrong Erica . . . . . Maybe one could change her name?
ReplyDeleteDon't make me eat the scorpions in April! (Not keen on the liver either). Will there be anything I can eat? Can you remember 20 words a day?
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you back.
ReplyDeleteHow about EricaYi and EricaEr? ( 一,二 )
or
EricaJie and EricaMei? ( 姐,妹 )
EricaDa and EricaXiao ( 大,小 )
EricaQian and EricaHou ( 前,后 )
EricaXian and EricaHou ( 先,后 )
EricaGao and EricaAi ( 高,矮 )
EricaPang and EricaShou ( 胖,瘦 )
EricaNan and EricaBei ( 南,北 )
......
I'm sure you will learn more then 20 words a day!
heather: of course it's the new erica....like erica lin is here in beijing! and i am not going to try the scorpions, they were still moving!!
ReplyDeletegranddad: no cello :( this is the longest i haven't played ever! my fingers are bored.
dad: you can call erica whatever you like (well as long as it's nice)
mum: yeah there is loads of stuff you can eat, it's just that i only tell you about the weird ones cos it's boring if i tell you what i eat every day! i can't learn and remember 20 words a day, but after a this week, if i can remember 1/2 of the words i will be happy...going to test myself this weekend.
'mawen': i'm probably being really stupid here, but who are you?! :O
What an exciting life - apart from missing the cello, that is! You've done a lot in two weeks. Are you keeping a diary? Busy here ( but not always exciting!). London on Wednesday for the day by train with a group of Sing Livers (i as in capital I, not meat). Talk to you soon. Love Royston (and me)
ReplyDeleteHave a good trip to the unrestored wall tomorrow (it probably IS tomorrow where you are) Question: Why is your Gramps anonymous?
ReplyDeleteyes the trip to the great wall was really good today, i'm always up for a 4 hour hike!!
ReplyDeletegrandma are you logging in before you comment on the blog? maybe that's why it says anonymous??
